Hi, book friends! We all know I have a slight obsession with fairytale retellings. Anything that takes the classic princes and princesses out of the fairytales and into different environments. But what about the villains? This week, I jumped into a unique Amazon/Audible Original series – The Faraway Collection. The Wickeds (book 5 in this fun series) gives 3 “wicked” characters a whole new light and I enjoyed dropping into their world for just a brief time.

I want more!
I want more of The Wickeds! So often, the villains of the story are portrayed as villains. With this short story, we get to see the Wickeds as regular fairytale people. I enjoyed their friendship, their stories, and seeing them in a new light. This is definitely a fairytale retelling I’d love to see expanded into a full-length novel. (Is anyone out there listening??).
At under an hour in length, The Wickeds can easily be listened to on a summer afternoon or as you’re winding down for the night and can’t force your eyes to focus on your Kindle’s text anymore (like I did) 🙂
THE WICKEDS by Gayle Forman
Series: Faraway Collection #1
Narrated by Frankie Corzo
Envious queen? Evil stepmother? Kidnapping hag? Elsinora, Gwendolyn, and Marguerite are through with warts-and-all tabloids, ugly lies, and the three ungrateful brats who pitted them against each other and the world. But maybe there’s more to the stories than even the Wickeds know. Is it time to finally get revenge? After all, they’re due for a happily-enough-ever-after. Even if they have to write it themselves.
#AudiobookMonth Narration by Frankie Corzo – 5 stars!
I loved the narration on this short story, expertly done by Frankie Corzo. The pacing was great (read: I can speed it up and it doesn’t sound weird!) and I had no trouble following along. Frankie is a narrator I would easily gravitate toward in future listenings.
Final answer for The Wickeds?
Hey, I said this was a MINI review. Final answer? I loved it!! You have villains who got a raw deal but decide to take their happily ever afters into their own hands, you have spoiled princesses who maybe weren’t as perfect as Disney made them out to be, and you have a surprising twist at the end! This is a must-read for any fairytale retelling fans!
