First thoughts on Sweet, Sexy Heart

I love Dash and Amber! She’s not this silly girl, fawning over the football star and he’s not this famous sports-playing jerk. And a main character who owns a bookstore … definite plus! I love Nana and all the “dirty grandmas” who semi-swoon over Dash, as well. This is definitely an entertaining book!

Amber Montgomery is perfectly happy with her quiet life. She loves running her bookstore, taking long walks with Reno, her Labrador retriever seizure-response dog, and spending time with her close-knit family. She’s never needed thrills the way some of her sisters have. In an effort to control her epilepsy, she tries to avoid anything that creates too much excitement or stress – including relationships. When Amber hosts a book signing for famed-athlete-turned-author Dash Pennington, he’s everything she’s spent her life avoiding: loud, aggressive, and far too handsome, as proven by the hordes of women who surround him everywhere he goes. Amber can’t ignore the sparks flying between her and Dash, but this is a no-brainer for her: Ignore their chemistry and hold her breath until he leaves town.

Dash Pennington has spent his life running. Running the ball in for a touchdown, running from town to town to appease his public relations reps, and for years, running into the arms of too many women to count. He’s also an expert at protecting – his reputation, his family, and lately, his sanity. But he’s ready to make a change. When he comes to the sleepy little town of Oak Falls, Virginia, and witnesses the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen living the life he craves, she refuses to have anything to do with him. But now that Dash has found the one thing he doesn’t want to run from, he’ll stop at nothing to win her over.

I absolutely loved Oak Falls … what a sweet little town!

I love everything about small towns. Set a book in them (especially a romance) and I’m sure to enjoy it! And Oak Falls is such a sweet, supportive town. The way they all show their concern for Amber really warms my heart.

Dash is an extreme romantic!

In the beginning of Sweet, Sexy Heart you think Dash is going to be this macho-jock. Very early on in the book, however, it becomes clear just how much Amber is affecting him. Even though Amber is the quiet bookworm, she can’t deny the attraction between her and Dash. I absolutely loved the sparks and the way their feelings couldn’t be hidden. A true love story!

I loved the addition of the Ladies Who Write!

I didn’t know much about the LWW when I first started Sweet, Sexy Heart but not only is it a fictional part of Amber’s life, it’s also a real group that Melissa Foster writes for! I can’t wait to read the other Love in Bloom books that occur in the LWW world ๐Ÿ™‚

To be frankly honest, this is the first book I’ve read with a main character who had epilepsy. Not only was it an entirely different point of view for me, but I loved how Dash went out of his way to learn about Amber’s medical condition and do his best to help her. Melissa Foster also shows that Amber is able to be a fairly “normal” adult, even though she has epilepsy. I got to learn about it, through Dash, and it gave Amber a depth that she may not have otherwise had. She wasn’t your classic damsel in distress.

On the line of damsels in distress, Amber is a character who embraces her femininity without having to be a damsel. She’s a business owner and a very strong individual. But never the damsel.

Final Answer for Sweet, Sexy Heart

Oh my gosh, this book is AMAZING! I know very little about epilepsy but I loved how we were able to learn through Dash’s eyes, as he learned about what Amber was going through. And everything this man did for her … for love … woah! Sweet, Sexy Heart is an absolute must-read sweet and sexy romance!

P.S. You get to see Brett Bad and his wife, Sophie!! ๐Ÿค— I loved Brett and Sophie so much in Brett!
