Hotel heiress Ela LeBlanc is ready to take control of her life. Waking up handcuffed to a former marine and the news of her stepdad’s plans to sell that hotel is just the wake-up call she needs.

With only thirty days to prove he has no claim on the property, Ela has to enlist the help of her sexy as sin bodyguard. When things take a dangerous turn, and Matt becomes the only person she can trust, she can’t help but wonder … can she trust him with her heart?

Former Marine Matt Cole came to New Orleans for a fresh start, a chance to make amends. After accepting a job as the chief security for a wealthy hotelier, he quickly realizes that life in the Big Easy is anything but.

Matt’s greatest challenge is keeping his distance from the tempting Ela LeBlanc, his boss’s gorgeous and very off-limits stepdaughter. Surviving Ela is just the beginning. As things unfold it becomes clear that it’s not just his heart on the line, but their lives.

Before we go any further – just look at that beauty of a cover! Every book I’ve seen in this series so far has stunning cover art. After all, the cover is what initially draws you in. And these have been designed beautifully!

The Characters of Provoke You were …

Here we go … another Cole brother I absolutely love.

I enjoyed the introduction Provoke You gave me to Matt’s character. We see him as the former Marine, but also as the orphan who lost his family and was taken in by the Coles. Throughout the book, a picture is painted, showing how the Coles love him as one of their own, first with Matt’s brothers and later with his adoptive parents.

Do. Not. Get me started about Ela’s stepdad. In the beginning, his character is a jerkish nuisance. As the story progresses, I despised him even more. That horrible, insecure, greedy little man … there just are no words harsh enough to describe what I thought of him!

And then, on a more positive note, we have Kitt and Chase. They’re Matt’s Marine buddies. Very loyal. And their bets had me giggling at times. Very entertaining. But what I liked most about them was how easily they both warmed up to Ela. She was supposed to be this spoiled, rich heiress but they never really treated her that way. For a short period of time, she was their “mission” but very quickly, she fell right into becoming one of them.

Old Ben was a sweet guy, though we didn’t really “see” too much of him in the book. Most of his interactions revolved around Ela and Matt discussing him.

Grans. Now, this is a woman I would have loved to meet. The way she influenced Ela, even though her character is long gone by the time the book even starts, showed a lot about her.

And the Plot of Provoke You was …

Starting on page one with Matt and Ela being handcuffed had me cracking up right away! What a way to meet!

Provoke Me, like many other series similar to it, showed us a glimpse into characters who originate in another book. It’s why I love this type of series so much. In this case, we got to see Derek and Valentina’s engagement party from the other side. And neighbor Ana shows up again – I would really like to see her get her own book *hint*. She’s such a sweet character.

Everything Ela goes through in this book is absolutely insane! And Provoke You – what a perfect title! In the beginning, that seems to be exactly what Ela does. To Matt, I mean. And of course, her stepdad is pushing her buttons and she’s reacting, doing what she can to get back at him.

Provoke You shows (whether intentionally or not) that, though many people think money can buy you happiness, the end result is often the opposite.

And the romance!

You knew I wasn’t going to leave that part out. To be honest, there was more slow-burn and build up to the romance than I expected. Once the heat kicked on, however, it definitely got hot. Diana has mastered the art of “show, don’t tell” when it comes to romance.

Final Answer?

As with Unravel You, I really enjoyed Provoke You. I am looking forward to my introduction into the next Cole brother. Diana A. Hicks has skillfully claimed a permanent spot on my auto-buy author list. If you enjoy slow-burn, steamy romances, this is the book for you!
