Bookstack'd Week #4

Hi book friends and happy Saturday! How was your week? Mine was short because I took a couple days off from work for Husband’s and my 12th anniversary (which just happens to be today). I’ve also been super busy copying over reviews and blog posts that we want to keep from the Ginger Mom & Company blog before it disappears into nothingness at the end of the month.

While I put myself on a buying ban a few weeks ago, I seriously broke that this weekend (though only with freebies … I’m pretty sure that still counts as an epic fail because I added a TON of new books to my Kindle. So much for my Down the TBR Hole total ๐Ÿคฆ)

6 Binge-Worthy BookTube Channels
Down the TBR Hole #2 – This Might Take Longer Than I Thought
Charming and the Cherry Blossom by L.J. Evans – book review โญโญโญโญ

This week, I revisited my love of BookTube channels by sharing a list of 6 of my favorites. I used to watch BookTube ALL THE TIME as a new blogger and it’s the reason for at least 1/4 of the books I’ve bought.

Down the TBR Hole graphic

Another round of Down the TBR Hole came and went … and my total went up significantly. It appears I wasn’t paying attention when I made the original total … I forgot that Amazon splits your BOOKS and DOCS. So I added roughly 500+ “docs” to my total. It might take a little longer than I thought to get through all these books … though, I’m really excited to keep going on Monday with another round!

I also shared my blog tour/release day review of Charming and the Cherry Blossom by L.J. Evans. It turned out to be a solid 4-star read, though I wasn’t expecting 500+ pages! I originally signed up for the book tour because it sounded like a good read (and it was!), but I couldn’t figure out why it was taking me so long to get through it. That little percentage on my Kindle JUST. WASN’T. MOVING! Still highly worth the read.

It’s Shoutout Time!

Bookstack'd Shoutout

Time for another bookish shoutout!! I have to say this is probably my favorite part of the weekly wrap-up … I always have so much fun spotlighting other bloggers!

This week’s favorite post came from TotallyBex with a post about 100 of the Best Slow-Burn Romances! Many of you know I absolutely LOVE romances and slow-burns (though often frustrating) are at the top of that list! I’ve been through this list once already and can’t wait to add to my book collection (once I read some of the ones I already have). #readerproblems

This Week on Bookstagram

I didn’t post too much on Bookstagram, the only ones being the Little Free Libraries that Minion Two and I found on Thursday ๐Ÿ˜Š. We found one a few blocks from our house (it’s on the way to Minion One’s old school and I had spied it during one of our walks home from the school this year) and the other was at a park I’ve been going to for years … how have I missed it all this time?

Sadly, Minion Two didn’t find any picture books in the Little Free Libraries, though we did add a few of our own for other kids to find.

I am in so much trouble here! I said I wasn’t going to buy any more books. I haven’t looked for freebies or anything in the LONGEST time! But yesterday … yesterday, I fell off the wagon. A total of 24 books in 24 hours. That’s not true … it was more like about 10 minutes but that just sounds even worse!

Most of these were new books to me, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that I already owned book 5 in The Royally Series by Emma Chase. So now I’ve got two books in the series to read ๐Ÿ™‚

Many of these were initial cover-grabbers for me. But I bought them because of the synopsis(es?). I’ve picked up a little bit of everything with this Freebie Haul – cozies, romance, historical romance, and Christmas (it IS Christmas in July, after all!). I’m stocking up on amazing Christmas books to read because Crystal and I have decided to do a CHRISTMAS IN JULY starting next year and I’m so excited for it!!

Melissa Foster has ANOTHER FREEBIE (well, at least at the time of this post being written)!! Not that I don’t already have enough of her books … but I am always on the lookout for more! And it’s a Braden one!! I absolutely love the Bradens ๐Ÿ’•

A second thing you’ll soon learn about me is that I FREAKING LOVE HIGHLANDERS!! Ever since reading Madeline Martin’s Highlanders books a couple years ago, I’ve been hooked! I love them so much ๐Ÿ’• And really … a cozy mystery about a bookstore? This book nerd is on board! I love all sorts of books that have someone writing a book, working in a bookstore, blogging about books. Anything. I love it.

Aloha Alibi is a cozy mystery I bought specifically for the 2021 Literary Escapes Challenge that I’m participating in … I needed a book for Hawaii, after all!

I read a few books by Melissa Chambers when I first started blogging (I’ll be re-sharing the reviews shortly) and loved her writing style. So when I saw this one (and that it was a freebie!), I snagged it right away ๐Ÿ™‚

And Guess What I Forgot?

Remember those adorable Little Free Libraries up there? I may have donated 8 or 9 books, but I also took 3 out …

What I Read Last
A Very Braden Christmas

I read A Very Braden Christmas yesterday afternoon (it’s only 78 pages so that’s not an amazing thing) but oh my gosh, it’s SOOOOOO SWEET! I did a review on Goodreads but it’s one I’ll definitely be showcasing on the blog in the near future.

What I’m Reading Now
Cupcakes and Chaos Lisa Siefert

I haven’t read too many cozy mysteries (I could probably count on one hand the number I have) but so far, I’m enjoying Cupcakes & Chaos. I stumbled on it last week when I was doing my BookTube post and Lisa Siefert made it onto that list.

What I’m Reading Next
Into Neon

I’ll probably spend most of my week ahead listening to the last half of Into Neon by Matthew A. Goodwin so I’m ready for my tour stop next week. It’s good so far, though I think this is a series that I’ll have to continue on Kindle … there’s a lot to absorb.

I swear that as soon as I put myself on a book ban, the floodgates open and I wind up buying WAY MORE books than I was before implementing it. (Why am I like this?) Happy reading this week!

Hi there Megan! Okay, I do feel better now that I saw how many books you bought this passed week. I didn’t buy anything and won’t buy any physical books for quite some time due to the renovations, but I did receive 6 review copies that I don’t know when I’ll squeeze in. Us readers really do need to start taking really good care of ourselves so that we can live up to 100+ in order to get through our TBR stacks! If I don’t buy anything new and actually read every book on my TBR at the moment, it will take me roughly 7 years…!

Hope you will have a good week and DO NOT BUY any new books!

    • Reply Bookstacks & Golden Moms July 25, 2021 at 8:26 am

oh yes I did! But I’m adding them to a separate READ IT NOW TBR pile so hopefully they’ll actually get read ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Reply Bookstacks & Golden Moms July 25, 2021 at 8:26 am

They’re so fun! We have about a dozen more in our town to find and then we’re going to start looking elsewhere.

Thank you so much for the shoutout and I’m sorry that I am just now seeing it! It makes me so happy to hear that my slow-burn page has been helpful and has added even more books for your already overflowing TBR ๐Ÿ˜Š
