Bookstack'd Week #1

Happy Saturday, book friends! How was your week? My Saturday started out a bit rocky (I woke up thinking I was late for inventory re-count where I work and rushed all the way in, just to have my site manager laugh at me because it was Saturday, not Sunday. Oh well – everyone got a laugh out of it ๐Ÿ™‚ )

In the interest of keeping track of what I’m reading, keeping myself accountable on my book spending, and staying connected around the book blog-o-sphere, I’m going to attempt weekly wrap-ups. Of course, you’ll see the usual suspects – The Sunday Post, Stacking the Shelves, and even Books from the Backlog. Enjoy!

The Sunday Post – This Week on the Blog

This week on the Bookstacks Blog, I posted my first Mid-Year Bookstack’d Update and was surprised that I’ve read almost 3,000 pages and listened to over 26 hours in audiobooks! I also reviewed the first book in Grace Goodwin’s Starfighter Training Academy series – The First Starfighter. If you’re a sci-fi romance reader, be sure to check out my 3.5 star review!

This week also saw the posting of my first mini-review – The Wickeds by Gayle Forman. It’s an Audible original short story, told from the perspective of “the wickeds” (those mothers and stepmothers from fairytales … you know, the “evil” ones). I really enjoyed doing this mini-review and think I’ll be doing more in the near future!

Stacking the Shelves – Bought, Borrowed & eARCs

I’ve been trying to curb my bookish spending over the past month and this week, I did pretty well. I only purchased two Kindle books that I found on blog tours (and they sounded amazing!). My Kindle Unlimited library increased by one more book this week and I also received three eARCs this week – one Kindle and one Audible audiobook and one Authors Direct audiobook.

Off Planet
Break Up With Him, For Me

Off Planet (Aunare Chronicles #1) by Aileen Erin and Endangered (Daughter of Hades #1) by Dani Hoots were both books I saw on book blogs this week and they sounded amazing!

And, I have to admit, I borrowed Break Up With Him, For Me by Whitney G. on Kindle Unlimited because it reminded me of that country song Break Up With Him by Old Dominion.

It Might Be You Tara September
Charming and the Cherry Blossom
Into Neon

I’ve already listened to It Might Be You by Tara September (an adorable short story) and I can’t wait to listen to Into Neon (Cyberpunk Saga #1) by Matthew A. Goodwin. I will also be reading Charming and the Cherry Blossom by L.J. Evans for my stop on the blog tour in July!

This week, I started listening to The Year of Less by Cait Flanders and it’s given me quite a few ideas for downsizing our own apartment. This audiobook has been sitting on my shelf since July 2018 and I’ve been meaning to start listening to it for almost as long!

I’ve also started reading (or re-reading) Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky #1) by Veronica Rossi on my Nook so that I can continue on with the series.

Our Favorites From the Book Blog-o-sphere

I absolutely loved DJ’s 5-star review of A Second-Hand Husband by Claire Calman. As always, DJ’s review had me chuckling and clicking over to Goodreads to add this delicious book to my TBR! Books & Bindings, DJ’s book blog, has long been a favorite of mine, even if she makes my TBR pile grow each time I click over to her site ๐Ÿ™‚

I also stumbled on The Bookish Sweet Tooth’s 4.5-star review of Love for Beginners by Jill Shalvis. Jill is an author I’ve purchased books by but never read and Astrid’s review had me wanting to pick this one up right away! The Bookish Sweet Tooth is a new book blog discovery for me and already I am enjoying the review style and general aesthetic.

Great wrap up post. I barely get my monthly one written. I hope that weekly works well for you.

I struggle so much to write monthly wrap-ups but so far, I’ve been consistently blogging on the weekends. I’m hoping that smaller chunks will help me stay accountable on my purchases, as well (seems I’m linking up).

Fun catching up on your week and your week in books. I’ve never gotten all the way into work on an unscheduled day, but not for lack of trying. I worked for a school so there was only a locked building. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love sci-fi so I’ll have to check out your recommend.

    Have a great week, Megan!

    • Reply Bookstacks & Golden Moms June 27, 2021 at 5:09 pm

I hope you enjoy them! I’m very new to the sci-fi genre so not quite sure what to expect yet. I’d love some recommendations, if you have them ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for joining in on Books from the Backlog! You’ve read a lot so far this year which is great. Nice new additions this week! I hope that you enjoy them all.

It certainly doesn’t feel like I’ve read much this year. And if you look at it, the majority of what I’ve read has been in May and June. Now I’m working on a couple longer ones and feel like I’m at a bit of a standstill. Thanks for stopping by to comment ๐Ÿ™‚

Charming the Cherry Blossom looks like a sweet one. Happy reading.

I am so excited to read Charming and the Cherry Blossom. It was the cover that originally drew me in but now I’m very excited ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Do you enjoy Kindle Unlimited? I love my subscription. I’m finding so many great books through it. I just have to read faster. LOL

Hope you have a great week!

    • Reply Bookstacks & Golden Moms June 29, 2021 at 8:43 am

I do, actually. I’ve got so many other books on my TBR that I don’t know if I’ve been using it enough to keep but I’ve found so many amazing books on there. I agree – I just have to read faster!

Thanks for stopping by to comment and you have a fantastic week, as well ๐Ÿ™‚

I always enjoy writing wrap-up posts ๐Ÿ™‚ They’re fun, easy to read, and always seem to get me motivated. And I’m always happy to showcase your posts – I absolutely adore your reviews!

I really enjoyed The Year of Less! Although I have to admit I didn’t really downsize after that, so perhaps the message of the book was lost on me haha. I hope you continue to enjoy it!

    • Reply Bookstacks & Golden Moms July 3, 2021 at 1:24 pm

The Year of Less has me very motivated to downsize … though our apartment looks like a tornado blew through at the moment. I think we forgot to just do it one room at a time ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for stopping by!

Good catch up. I love those books you showcasted.

I’m trying to control my book spending too. I set a goal of just my Book of the Month order and a few daily deal eBooks. Meh, I’m not doing well sticking to the plan. I’ll try again next month. Enjoy your week!

It is such a struggle to control my book spending at times, though I really want to read some of my backlog books ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve cut back to just BOTM, as well (though I haven’t seen much I’ve wanted in the last couple months so I keep skipping). Thanks for stopping by to comment!

I have actually showed up at work when I wasn’t scheduled too! I turned around and went home happy that I had a nice day off! I enjoyed Under the Never Sky a few years back. Nice to hear you’re enjoying your re-read. Happy reading and thanks for stopping by my Sunday Post!

    • Reply Bookstacks & Golden Moms July 1, 2021 at 4:37 pm

I enjoyed Under the Never Sky, as well. As I’m re-reading, I can’t believe how much I forgot about it! Thanks for the comment ๐Ÿ™‚

You got some interesting looking books! Off Planet is really calling to me, thanks for sharing:-)

  • Reply Susan (Bloggin' 'bout Books) June 28, 2021 at 6:23 pm

I love the UNDER THE NEVER SKY series. I hope you enjoy it as well.

I need to read THE YEAR OF LESS. We’re planning to downsize into a house we’ve been renting out that is half the size of the one we’re in now. I can’t wait to clear out all the clutter we’ve accumulated over the last 12 years!

    • Reply Bookstacks & Golden Moms June 29, 2021 at 8:59 am

THE YEAR OF LESS has been very enlightening. It’s got me looking at everything I own and wondering … do I really need all of this? We have a closet filled with stuff we don’t use and don’t really plan to ever use. It’s just a junk closet!

And yes!!! UNDER THE NEVER SKY was one of my favorite books when I read it the first time. I can’t believe how much I had forgotten about it. This re-read is so fun and I’m eager to continue on with the series. Thanks for stopping by!!

I am going to look for the Wickeds by Gayle Forman! And round=up posts and me seem to be at cross-purposes with each other – for my blog, I mean!

Happy reading! Your NetGalley challenge is awesome. If I wasnโ€™t doing a work project which added quite a few ARCs to my NetGalley shelf, Iโ€™d join in.

    • Reply Bookstacks & Golden Moms July 3, 2021 at 9:00 am

My main goal for the NetGalley challenge is to increase my ratio to the point that I get approved for ARCs again ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s a work in progress.

  • Reply Jo July 2, 2021 at 2:07 am

I feel like I should read The Year of Less as well. I don’t buy books (that aren’t free) often, but I definitely focus more on library books than those lingering on my own shelves – a I have a whole library room of personally owned books!

    Happy reading!

    • Reply Bookstacks & Golden Moms July 3, 2021 at 8:57 am

I’ve definitely been working on reading from my own list the last couple of weeks (though I’ve bought a few here and there). As we go through everything we own, I’m finding that my bookshelves have been holding many books that I bought because everyone else did. Or books that sounded good at the time but are now far outside my reading genres. It’s nice to create more space on my shelves for books I know I will read.
