10 Books That Should Be Made Into Netflix Shows | Top Ten Tuesday

Good morning, bookpups๐Ÿพ Who’s in the mood for a book chat? *raises hand annoyingly* One of my favorite things from my early book blogging days was always Top Ten Tuesday! One prompt, ten books, and a whole lot of fun! This week’s prompt is 10 books that should be adapted into Netflix movies/shows and I had to narrow my list down quite a few times to stick with just ten. So here are just a few of my favorite books that I would love to see Netflix make into shows (hint hint, Netflix). Enjoy!

QOTD: Do you watch movies or shows that are based on books?

I am very wary about this. I’ve fallen in love with books before *cough* The Lightning Thief *cough* and been disappointed by the movie. Extremely, angrily, disappointed. You just don’t change an ending like that!! So now I am very careful about watching movies or shows if I’ve already read the book. Most times, it’s best to just steer clear.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book chat, hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt of 10 books that should be made into Netflix movies/shows comes from Nushu @ Not A Prima Donna Girl.

Let’s talk about books and movies! And let me say first that this is just a fraction of the books that I’ve read and think should be made into books or movies … a small fraction!

These books are not in any particular order (favorites, etc).

THE VANISHING HALF BY BRIT BENNETT. As mixed as my feelings were about this book (it was just so sad!), I would love to see it played out in a movie. Read my review.

THRONE OF GLASS BY SARAH J. MAAS. Oh my gosh, yes! I love this series so much and would probably have to wait to watch it until each book was made into a movie. Then it would be a weekend binge-watching event ๐Ÿ˜‰ Read my review.

ANGEL EYES BY SHANNON DITTEMORE. I stumbled on this book when I first started reading Christian Fiction. I immediately fell in love with the characters and, though I already have a picture of them in my head, I’d love to see how they transfer into a movie.

KEEPER OF THE LOST CITIES BY SHANNON MESSENGER. As I have currently lent out the first book in this series, I grabbed the second for this photo. I loved the first book, though the entire series should be made into a Netflix series. Read my review.

THE LUNAR CHRONICLES BY MARISSA MEYER. Fairytale retellings at its finest! I’ve read Cinder more than once (on audiobook) and loved it. Though I’ve read Scarlett, Cress, and part of Winter, I wasn’t smart enough to write my review immediately. Therefore, I will be re-reading them all (my life is so rough, I know ๐Ÿคฃ)

DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE BY LAINI TAYLOR. Another incredible book that would benefit from being made into a movie. I loved Karou, Zuzanna, and Brimstone! I had to re-read it to remember why I was so pissed off at Akiva before starting the second ๐Ÿคฃ!

THE ENTIRE ISAN SERIES BY MARY TING. If you enjoy YA dystopian novels, this is the perfect series for you! It has a little romance, some spy/assassin action, and the perfect dystopian/post-apocalyptic world. I’d watch this one in a heartbeat, just to see Ava and Rhett ๐Ÿ’• Read my review of Helix.

THE 39 CLUES SERIES BY MULTIPLE AUTHORS. I would watch this series just to see how each different author’s perspective translates onto the screen. The best part about this series (other than the clue hunt!) is that each author brings a slightly different spin to the characters. This would be a must-see! Read my review of The Maze of Bones.

NOT YOUR MATCH BY LINDZEE ARMSTRONG. I love love LOVE this series! Lindzee is one of my favorite authors and to see Brooke and Luke in person (on the screen), would make this series even better. It’s a clean romance, so it would even be one you could watch as a family.

CAPTAIN SUPERLATIVE BY J.S. PULLER. This is an incredible middle-grade story about superheroes and teaching kids to stand out, instead of trying to fit in or blend into the shadows. Read my review.

I LOVE The Lunar Chronicles, and I’m loving that it’s made so many lists this week. Somebody needs to get on this and adapt it already. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh my gosh, yes! I’m a fairytale retelling nerd so it was a given on my list ๐Ÿ™‚

I have read one book in the 39 Clues series with a friend’s daughter and we love it. That would be such a great show!

    • Reply Bookstacks & Golden Moms August 20, 2020 at 11:00 am

Oh yea! Especially because the adventures get more and more insane as the books go on!

Daughter of Smoke & Bone would make a great series or movie. It would be fun to see it play out on the screen. Nice choices!

I know EXACTLY what you meanโ€”it’s why I keep saying that all of the books on my list ‘could’ make for great films or series … because they definitely could under the right circumstances. I really like the idea of The 39 Clues series, though. It could really make for a fun series!

I always seem to be a bit disappointed with the movies after reading the book – so maybe it is better to see the movie first

    • Reply Bookstacks & Golden Moms August 20, 2020 at 10:59 am

That is the way I am starting to lean. Movie directors just need to learn to follow the book as the script and not deviate ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Reply Nadene August 19, 2020 at 6:37 pm

I am not so keen on books being adapted into movies. I find that most time the movie does adequately portray the book.

    • Reply Bookstacks & Golden Moms August 20, 2020 at 10:59 am

It definitely does. But I find books I love to pieces and really want to SEE the book, as well as using my imagination.

Loved The Lunar Chronicles and read The Throne of Glass but need to read the rest of the series.

I have not read any one of these books!!! so now i need to read them before someone plans to make them into movies or shows!!

I’ve been let down by books adapted into movies, too! I think watching the movies first and then reading the book is better for me. The book is almost always better than the movie and I have a way the book looks in my head so if it doesn’t compare I’m disappointed. I watched Twilight before I read the books and that turned out better for me. If I do read the book first I find it’s better that a lot of time has gone by from reading the book to watching the movie, because then I can’t remember every detail of the book and then be disappointed by them being forgotten or changed in the film. Great list here, and thanks for visiting my TTT!

I know many people like to read the book before watching the movie but I feel the opposite is better. I’m less disappointed in the movie if I don’t have book expectations. And the book is always good ๐Ÿ™‚

Haven’t read any of them but they all sound thrilling to see in the big or small screen! But i am with you re books to movies becoming super disappointing!

    • Reply Bookstacks & Golden Moms August 20, 2020 at 10:57 am

I absolutely can’t stand when movie directors take liberties with movies that they just shouldn’t. If it’s in the book, I want to see it in the movie. Don’t add extra fluff. Stick to the author’s vision.

I’ve not read any of those books so but I trust your judgement on them being great as movies/series.

    • Reply Bookstacks & Golden Moms August 20, 2020 at 10:56 am

The Lunar Chronicles is a series I would absolutely love to see made into movies. Of course, that’s all because of my love of fairytale retellings. To someone who doesn’t enjoy fairytales, it may not be an automatic choice. Thanks for the lovely comment!

I haven’t read any of these, but the Throne of Glass series is on my TBR

  • Reply Robin Loves Reading August 20, 2020 at 7:16 pm

I bet theyโ€™d all be pretty good.

  • Reply Kate @ Bitch Bookshelf August 20, 2020 at 7:25 pm

Pulling for ToG too! I think another SJM show (or was it film) is in the works – the ACOTAR series, which I think would make a fun CW series.

  • Reply Bianca August 21, 2020 at 3:32 am

I can do without Throne of Glass tbh๐Ÿ˜‚

  • Reply Gayathri August 21, 2020 at 2:10 pm

Those are some awesome choices. And I am sold when it comes to any middle grade book adaptation TBH

I have only read The Vanishing Half on your list, and you’re right it would make an amazing show. I like the other books on your list too — I’ve heard of some, but most I haven’t, so I have learned omething new!

I haven’t read the Lunar books, but I do need too. I keep hearing GREAT things about them, so they seem like ideal adaptation material; especially in all of the adventure they feature! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks so much for the visit to Finding Wonderland. Apologies it took me so long to visit here.
